2014 Outlook:Last updated on Jun-30-2014 by Larry Goldstein
Gavin Escobar (nicknamed "Pablo") was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2013 draft. He is expected to be the eventual replacement for Jason Witten. While playing time was limited in his rookie year, Escobar benefited from having one of the best in the business mentor him. At 6-foot-6 and 249 lbs., Pablo is a big target who can evolve into a premier tight end in time. At the very least, look for the Cowboys to run multiple TE sets and give the former San Diego State alumnus an opportunity to make plays in what should be a high-powered offense.
Gavin Escobar is a second year tight end that has been turning some heads at Cowboys' practice. As a 6'6" tight end, he's been lining up as a wideout. In an attempt to get the sophomore tight end more involved in the offense, the Cowboys are doing everything possible. In 2013 Escobar only had nine receptions, but totaled 134 yards and two touchdowns. Escobar is still behind veteran Jason Witten, but the pass-happy Cowboys will be involving Escobar in unconventional ways, possibly opening him up for some big plays.Fantasy Analysis:
It's already a fact; the Cowboys will be throwing the ball a lot. There are many mouths to feed on the Cowboy offense, but only two players are listed as 6'6" and have shown separation and catching ability. If the Cowboys truly try to involve Escobar, he is easily a TE2 with upside. His height is the outlying difference when he is matched up with much smaller corners as a wideout. He has also shown an ability to go up and catch the ball. If you're looking for a young tight end with tons of potential, look no further.
