2014 Outlook: Super Sleeper (high risk/potential)

Last updated on Aug-18-2014 by Rob Warner

The Giants found their Hakeem Nicks replacement with the 12th overall pick of the 2014 draft. Beckham (5-foot-11 and 198 pounds) dominated at the combine, posting an unofficial forty time of 4.31 and a 10-yard split of 1.50 seconds. The receiver has strong hands and is explosive after the catch. His pro-ready route-running and separation skills should help him hit the ground running in his rookie season. The LSU alum hauled in 143 passes during his three collegiate seasons, gaining 2,340 yards (16.4 YPC) and 12 touchdowns. He also has special teams value as evidenced by his two punt return scores. His ADP has him selected around WR53 (126.54). Beckham has the most value in dynasty formats, but could potentially have an excellent rookie campaign if the Giants give him starter snaps.

UPDATE: A hamstring injury has kept him out of the first three preseason games. He's reportedly close to 100% and should debut for the 4th preseason game against the Jets.

Latest Update

Aug-19-14 Giants WR Odell Beckham may have re-injured hamstring

Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham has missed almost four weeks of training camp with a hamstring injury, and now may have re-aggravated the strain. During practice Tuesday, NJ.com's Jordan Raanan reports that Beckham pulled up during 7-on-7 drills, then jogged very slowly over to the sideline and stayed there for the duration of practice. Head coach Tom Coughlin insisted that Beckham didn't suffer a setback, but the beat reporter saw things differently.

Fantasy Analysis:

More bad news for the rookie. The Giants liked Beckham enough to make him the 12th overall pick in the 2014 draft, and they were certainly hoping for a better start to his career. Beckham's been out for essentially the entirety of Giants camp, which won't help him learn Ben McAdoo's somewhat complicated West Coast offense. Rookie seasons are hard enough for receivers without the added complication of missed time. While Beckham holds value in dynasty leagues, re-draft league owners should think hard before spending anything more than a late-round flier on the rookie WR. Beckham is going undrafted in the average fantasy draft.
