WR Derrick Mason, BAL
<< Back to Profiles List
Another season, another 1,000+ receiving yards for the underrated and steady Mason, who reached that mark for the seventh time in eight years despite playing with a rookie quarterback. His final stat line of 80-1037-5 was in step with his career numbers and with the big-armed Joe Flacco airing the ball down the field, Mason averaged 13.0 yards per catch, his best number since the 2003 season. Mason has not missed a game during the past six seasons, but his age (turned 35 this year), injuries (recent shoulder surgery could keep him on the sideline for much of training camp) and contract (enters final year) could keep him from doing the same this year depending on what happens between now and September. If any of those factors remain an issue, Mason's fantasy value will take a hit and at some point, the yards will start to dip (even if the number of catches per week remains consistent). Overall, the Ravens' top target remains a safe bet as a reserve fantasy option.

SportsGrumblings.com - Ol' man Mason always gets derided, but in a PPR format like this, he'll be a very productive WR3. |

RapidDraft.com - Even with his shoulder issue, Mason falls into the safe receiver category for me, especially at the end of Round 9. When he's healthy, Flacco will be looking for him. Good insurance behind my younger, riskier guys. |

RapidDraft.com - It's never exciting to draft Mason, but he'd have to retire not to catch 80 balls again this season ... |
