Position NFL Team Experience Age Height Weight
RB NE 11 years 34 6'1 231

2009 Outlook: Deep-league Only

After 11 seasons in Jacksonville, Taylor was let go due to the emergence of Maurice Jones-Drew as well as his worst season rushing (556 yards) and least amount of touchdowns (1) since 2001. While Taylor might be effective as a change of pace runner for the Patriots, he won't be a very useful fantasy player.

As it stands right now, there is a good chance that Fred Taylor will be the starting running back when the season starts, but with the log jam at running back in New England, that doesn't mean much. Taylor didn't play in the first pre-season game, so we didn't get a chance to get a look at him.

2009 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
May 10.03 SportsGrumblings.com - Taylor is someone I felt had good risk/reward in this spot. His best days are behind him, but used as part of a true RBBC - one that will likely be minus Lawrence Maroney - he may emerge as the veteran "go-to" guy.
June 12.09 FFLibrarian.com - Certainly doesn't hurt to grab old veteran like Taylor towards the end of the 12th round - and he might just prove to be valuable in NE.
July 11.11 FFToday.com - While I would have had to consider drating Laurence Maroney at my next pick, the option was not there because KFFL grabbed Maroney just before this pick and my pre-draft kicked in for Taylor. That is all for the better anyway. The last thing I want to do is play musical chairs with the Pats RB situation. I did it last year in one league and it was not fun. Still, Taylor is worth a shot here because I do believe he is the best RB on the roster and could earn the lion's share of the carries. Maroney may have more athletic ability at this point given his youth relative to Taylor, but he hasn't shown to do much with it, which is why they went out and got Taylor in the first place. At this price, I'd put my chips on Taylor being the guy with upside.
