2009 Outlook: Over the Hill (decreased production)
With Brown coming back from a knee injury, many felt Ricky would have to shoulder the load for much of the early part of the season. However, much to our surprise Ronnie was pretty much ready to go from the start and Ricky was relegated to the second back. In the end this roll seemed to work out well for Williams and the Dolphins. Ricky was able to spell Ronnie, and when he did he ran the ball well. So well in fact that in a few games Williams carried the ball more than Brown. This season Rickey is 32 and we all know that as running backs get older their production drops off. I would expect the same to hold true for Williams. We'll likely continue to see Ricky spell Brown, which from a fantasy perspective means few points. Until we hear otherwise it's probably best to draft Ricky if you were lucky enough to get Ronnie. I just don't see him getting the ball enough to make a fantasy impact this season.

FFToday.com - Some better WR prospects on the board now than RB prospects, but I have more need for RB depth. Ricky represents some cheap insurance on Ronnie Brown at this point. |

FFToday.com - Hey, for one of my few drafts this year I do not have Ronnie Brown, but no one seems to want to give Ricky Williams any love at all so he fell all the way down to the 14th round here. Ricky is slowing down but in a reserve role on a solid running team, and in short bursts should he be thrust into starting action, he will perform admirably. Ronnie hasn't been a pillar of health in his career, so Ricky is a good depth pick. |
