2009 Outlook: Quality Backup
Being a Jets fan I had no choice but to watch Pennington for the first 8 years of his career. For the most part, I liked what I saw. Chad commanded the offense well, holding onto the ball and taking few chances. Because Pennington made choices on the field, it was hard for me not to like the guy. As with any player through there is always something we find fault with. In Chad's case it was his lack of arm strength. He never seemed to take the chance and throw the deep ball. For Miami that was exactly what they needed last season, someone to control the clock, not make bad choice and give them a chance to win each and every game. For this seasonm however, I think expectations are much higher and Chad is going to have to play even better than last year or he could lose his job to Chad Henne. Miami didn't select Henne in last year's draft to have him stand on the sideline and watch the Dolphins lose. If you're a gambling man then Pennington could pay off, but if you like to play it safe then I'd stay away until the season has started and we see what type of player Pennington will be this season.

ThunderingBlurb.com - If nothing else, my email issues are making this a good lesson on how to adjust on the fly. A bunch of the QBs I liked are drifting off and I would like to have a consistent bye week backup. Pennington had a career year last year, ending up as a top ten QB in many formats. I don't expect that - it's not even it's his ceiling, it's his imaginary alternate reality. But he should play well enough to fill in at least one week with the upside to go longer if Rivers gets hurt. |

eCouchCoach.com - Hopefully Pennington can follow up with two good years back to back. He could be a good spot starter against certain matchups. |
