QB Marc Bulger, STL

2009 Outlook: Quality Backup
Bulger's completion percentage, yards per game and yards per attempt have declined in each of the past four seasons. Behind last year's woeful pass protection, it was tough to equate this scared, ineffectual QB as the same franchise darling who made Kurt Warner seem expendable after the 2003 season. It's true the team hasn't protected him. Since they traded Warner, the Rams have finished no better than 26th in the league in sacks allowed -- although that doesn't explain why Bulger was able to put up such solid numbers in 2004 and 2006. Regardless, Bulger isn't the player he once was. The addition of LT Jason Smith may help provide some more protection, but the Rams' move to a West Coast-style offense could prove to be a difficult transition for a veteran drop back QB. Fantasy owners shouldn't rely too heavily him.
