WR Josh Reed, BUF

2009 Outlook: Bye Week Fill-in
By default Josh Reed has been Lee Evans' secondary receiver over the last couple of seasons. That role is now gone as Terrell Owens is on the team and that should decrease Reed's fantasy value quite a bit. Reed is a quality player and will be a fine slot receiver who can catch the underneath passes while Owens and Evans are streaking down the field, but there are only so many passes to go around. Reed will even have to compete with Roscoe Parrish for those catches. Quarterback Trent Edwards has a plethora of receiving options and it just does not make sense for fantasy teams to take a chance on Reed. He could be a decent bye week fill-in or situational starter, but he should be available on waivers in just about every league if it comes to that.
8/16 Update: Reed has yet to cement his spot at third on the depth chart behind Owens and Evans. He has looked fine during the preseason, but so has Roscoe Parrish. The fact that there are a few tight ends who can catch passes too, not to mention Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson out of the backfield, it just does not seem like Reed is going to get enough touches to become a viable fantasy option.
