Position/Rank NFL Team Experience Age Height Weight
WR - #16 ARI 7 years 29 6'1 215

2009 Outlook: Stud (low risk)

Boldin was the NFL's best receiver for the first month of 2008, catching 27 passes for 366 yards and five scores in his first four games. In Week 4 versus the Jets, Boldin was violently hit by Eric Smith and missed two games recovering from a broken sinus. Despite also hurting his shoulder later in the season, Boldin managed to record 89 catches for 1,038 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2008.

Boldin's name swirled around in pre-draft trade rumors but a deal never happened, and Boldin remains disgruntled about his contract situation. Boldin was in a similar situation last season, but as fantasy owners saw, Boldin never let his off the field issues affect his performance on the field.

Boldin will be highly motivated to perform at a high level this season to earn a new contract; assuming he can stay healthy, Boldin should catch 90 passes for 1,200 yards and 10 TD's in 2009. Larry Fitzgerald may be the best wide receiver in the game, but Boldin is an excellent choice as well for fantasy owners as a #1 stud wide receiver.

Update 8/21

Almost a year later, the situation remains the same: Boldin is upset about his contract. The latest news of Larry Fitzgerald re-structuring his contract doesn't create enough cap room this season for Boldin to sign a new deal, but it does create the possibility of a new contract next off-season. Despite all of the drama about his contract situation (and minor swelling in his knee), Boldin continues to practice and produce on the field as an elite fantasy wide receiver. Fantasy owners should have no hesitation selecting Anquan Boldin in their drafts.

2009 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
May 3.03 RapidDraft.com - Plenty of tempting running backs sit there, but only a few true No. 1 fantasy receivers remain. Better durability nearly made Terrell Owens the pick, but I simply can't get past Boldin's 89 catches in just 12 games last year.
June 3.01 KFFL.com - The physically gifted Boldin will make an impact wherever he suits up in 2009. Even if Cards quarterback Kurt Warner goes down with an injury or old age, 'Zona's second-fiddle receiver will remain a first fantasy option; the transition at OC shouldn't deter this team much.
July 3.02 RapidDraft.com - This guy had the top scoring average of any receiver in many PPR formats last year. Even 12-14 games of Boldin is worth the top pick of Round 3.
