2013 Outlook: Quality Backup

Last updated on Aug-21-2013 by Jeb Gorham

Rivers is a solid QB pick for your draft. His 3,600 yard plus season in 2012 was 1,000 yards shy of his 2011 mark, but he threw about the same number of TDs and less INTs. Rivers has weapons at his disposal, but the team needs to get in sync to be effective. Hopefully Mike McCoy's leadership can add a spark. I think Rivers should boost his yardage numbers this season and throw his consistent 25-28TDs.

17.11 FFToolbox - Rob Warner - Rivers production has torpedoed much like the San Diego playoff hopes recently as he has committed 47 turnovers over his past 32 games. New head coach Mike McCoy plans to scrap Norv's vertical passing game and focus on shorter completions with should bode well for Rivers as he's behind one of the weak O-lines in the league. With the additions of Danny Woodhead and potential breakout for Vincent Brown - Rivers could be worth targeting late as a QB2 / bye week filler.

14.01 Bruno Boys - Rivers is far and away my favorite sleeper and comeback player this season. It seems that his 2012 season was so bad that people forgot just how good he was the four years prior. Rivers is currently being drafted as if he is expected to finish the same as last season. Yes, his offensive line is garbage but his receiving corps is finally starting to recover from the loss of VJax. The emergence of Danario Alexander, return of Vincent Brown and addition of Danny Woodhead all mean that Rivers has some weapons to throw to again. Over the final five weeks of 2012, Rivers threw 8TDs versus only 1INT which is hardly exciting but proves that his game recovered late last season. I?m drafting Rivers as a low-end backup (based on ADP) but that?s his floor. This pick has virtually no risk and tons of upside.
