TE Kellen Winslow, TB<< Back to Profiles List
2009 Outlook: Gamble (high risk)Winslow was a colossal bust for fantasy owners last season in Cleveland. While he missed six games with a staph infection and a high ankle sprain, he only caught 43 passes for 428 yards and 3 TD's for the Browns in 2008. Winslow was traded to Tampa Bay for a 2nd round pick in the offseason, and will have an immediate impact for the Buccaneers' passing game in 2009. Kellen Winslow will be viewed as a bust, and as an unreliable gamble by many fantasy owners in 2009, and while they may have a point, Winslow still remains one of the premier top ten fantasy options at his position.
There are very few impact fantasy tight ends available on draft day, and if Winslow begins to slide in your fantasy draft, then he is definitely worth a selection in the middle rounds. Winslow has shown he can be a playmaker in the past, and has a lot to prove with Tampa Bay in 2009. Fantasy owners should view Winslow as a major gamble this season. On one hand, Winslow could return to elite form and catch 75 passes for 800 yards and 8 TD's, or he could struggle with injuries as he did this past season and manage only 50 catches for 600 yards and 5 TD's. Either way, Winslow is a gamble worth taking at the tight end position in fantasy football.
Update 8/21
Winslow has been day to day with a mild ankle sprain much of the pre-season. Winslow should be fine when Week 1 rolls around as the ankle injury appears minor.
