2009 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

It is easy to dismiss Williams following his spectacular flame out after the in-season trade, but the Cowboys' new number one receiver is more than capable of putting up quality fantasy numbers. He came in last season when Tony Romo was out with an injury and never was a factor, but now Williams has had a full off-season to learn the system. Prior to his brutal 36-430-2 season, Williams scored 28 touchdowns over his first four seasons and posted at least 800 receiving yards in three of those campaigns. He has always been a "makes the hard play look easy and the easy play look hard" kind of receiver, but this is also the first time he will have started a season with a top-tier QB. Williams is a WR2 fantasy receiver who, If he can stay healthy, will post his second 1,000 season with eight scores to boot.

8/30: Williams sat out the Cowboys' third preseason game with a shoulder contusion, but he could have played if it was a regular season game, according to coach Wade Phillips. Despite missing action, Williams still ranks just inside the top-24 of fantasy receivers and remains a WR2 option.

2009 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
May 4.12 FantasySharks.com - There is some risk here as he could flop as the true #1 but the opportunity is here, on a good offense and expected to be the go-to guy.
June 5.10 CBSSports.com - Here's hoping he can replace T.O. and turn into at least Tony Romo's second-favorite target behind Jason Witten.
July 6.09 CBSSports.com - Surprised he's still on the board here. Someone has to replace T.O., and Williams is going to have a career year.
