2009 Outlook: Deep-league Only
New offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski plans on spreading the ball around more in 2009, however it still may not be enough to give Michael Clayton considerable fantasy value. Clayton caught just 38 passes for 484 yards and 1 TD's last season, and hasn't had a fantasy impact since his rookie year in which he caught 80 passes for 1,193 yards and 7 TD's. Clayton has been missing in action since then, but did have his best season statistically since 2004, and earned (in yet another shocking move by the Tampa Bay front office) a 4 year contract with over $10 million guaranteed.
If Jagodzinski is true to his word and spreads the ball around more, it will be between Antonio Bryant and Kellen Winslow, not Michael Clayton -- who should be considered as nothing more than a late round lottery ticket for fantasy owners in 2009.
Update 8/21
Clayton returned to practice Monday after missing a week with a hamstring injury. Clayton is expected to play this weekend against Jacksonville. With both Bryant and Clayton missing time with injuries, the Buccaneers' wide receivers have really struggled this pre-season.
