TE Ben Watson, NE<< Back to Profiles List
2009 Outlook: Bust (overvalued)Watson had a very down year in 2008, with only 22 receptions for 2009 yards and only 2 touchdowns (all his lowest totals since his rookie season). The Patriots brought in 2 new tight ends Chris Baker and Alex Smith to compete with Watson -- add to that the fact that he can't seem to stay healthy and you can see why he is a risky pick. The one thing that might help Watson is the return of Tom Brady. The loss of Brady might have had more to do with Watson's lack of production than most thought; so if Watson and Brady can both stay healthy, Watson might actually put up some decent fantasy numbers. There isn't much going for Watson, so don't waste anything more than a late round flyer on him.
August 15, 2009 Watson looks to be on a very short leash, especially with the off season signing of Chris Baker. Watson sat out the first pre-season game with an undisclosed injury, while Baker played the whole first half catching 2 touchdowns from Tom Brady. If Watson doesn't watch out he might lose his roster spot. Watson is not worth drafting.
