RB Julius Jones, SEA

2009 Outlook: Quality Backup
Still not an ideal feature back, Jones should have an expanded role this season now that Maurice Morris is in Detroit. Unfortunately, that role won't include much scoring. Jones split playing time fairly evenly with Morris last season, while both backs lost goal line tries to third wheel TD vulture T.J. Duckett. New coordinator Greg Knapp – who coached T.J. Duckett to some modest success in Atlanta – will likely look to split the backfield duties 60/40 with Duckett doing most of the heavy lifting and Jones playing the Warrick Dunn role. Jones will have a decent chance to crack 1,000 yards rushing this season, but don't expect more than a handful of touchdowns.

FFToday.com - While there are a number of backup/3rd down/relief RBs that could pan out well if they get enough rushes and recepts in their limited role, lets play the probabilities and go with a current starter. Didn't it take brother Thomas 6 seasons before breaking out and becoming a force in the league? Er... or was it 5 seasons for Thomas and I used that same line last year re: Julius...? |

TheHuddle.com - I'd rather be a little deeper at running back than at wide receiver, and I like Jones' chances of being a key cog in Seattle's bounceback season. Plus, with opening dates against the Rams and 49ers he could let me turn a quick profit via a sell-high trade. |

RapidDraft.com - Jones is the last primary back on the board that I see and could do some damage behind a blocking scheme that is said to fit his style better. He also presents the benefit to me of a couple of decent matchups (STL, SF) in the first two weeks of Marshawn Lynch's three-game ban. |
