2009 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

Solid and steady, Cooley remains a top notch fantasy tight end, though the Redskins' lack of a consistent passing game keeps him outside the top tier. Despite facing constant double teams, Cooley managed to post career-highs in receptions (83) and yards (849), but scored only touchdown after averaging nearly seven scores a year over his previous four seasons. The hallmark of Cooley's career has been his consistent hands and his ability to use his underrated speed to beat defenders to the open spot. He will need the team's young outside receivers to step up and help unclog the middle of the field, but expect Cooley to find the end zone with more frequency regardless this season. Cooley is about as safe a TE pick as they come and he is a good value pick after the top four fantasy tight ends are off the board.

2009 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
May 8.03 SportsGrumblings.com - Still a Top 5 TE.
June 7.03 FantasySharks.com - Cooley was shy on scores last year but did everthing else. He's been promised a big part in the offense and I expect him to make up for last season in spades.
July 6.12 FantasySharks.com - How can you not draft the guy that knows what he needs out of himself on Sunday to win his own fantasy matchup? Cooley is a stud at the TE position, the only thing that held him down last year was his unusual lack of TD's. He's been told by the coaching staff to be ready for a big year so let's hope they are right.
