2009 Outlook: Quality Backup
Matt Schaub is one of those guys you either love or hate. When he's playing you love the guy and when he's not, you wish you never drafted him. Since coming to the Texans in 2007 Schaub has managed to play in only 11 games a season. So before drafting Matt make sure you're prepared for him to miss a few games. When Matt does play he posts good numbers, which is why I feel he is one of the better fantasy quarterbacks in the league. Last season he threw for 300+ yards in 4 games while throwing for less than 200 yards only twice. If Schaub could stay healthy for a full season he could easily throw for more than 4,500 yards and 23 touchdowns. If you don't mind taking a small gamble, then go with Matt this season. He has the skill to be a very good fantasy quarterback and he gets to throw the ball to one of (if not) the best receiver in the league in Andre Johnson.

FFToday.com - I held out hope Donovan McNabb would fall to me, but with an unexpected twist Fantasy Sharks grabbed him to backup their starter Drew Brees. While Schaub does rank a notch below McNabb and others, I will grab him here because I saw a lot of improvement from him, and the entire Texans team, last year which has me very optimistic about Schaub this season. |

ThunderingBlurb.com - Schaub's biggest flaw is his apparent inability to stay healthy. But with the weapons at his disposal, he has tremendous upside. It's a bit risky but most of the other Qbs left have more questions or lower overall ceilings so I'd rather get him now than wait and risk having to pick over debris two rounds from now. |
