Heath Miller, TE, Steelers

2012 Outlook: Bye Week Fill-inLast updated on May-11-2012 by Rob Warner
Miller has played all 7 of his seasons with the Steelers and has been a model of durability (only missed 4 games over his career). Miller is used mostly as a blocking TE, but is a Big Ben favorite in the red zone. Over his career, Miller has averaged just 36 YPG with 31 touchdowns. He's a lower end TE2 at best.
Steelers tight end Heath Miller spoke to the media on Wednesday for the first time since tearing three ligaments in his right knee in Week 16 last season. During the press conference, Miller said he is running but not at full speed. Miller also said "there's a chance" that he can play by Week 1, but it's a little too early to draw conclusions.
"It's a long time before training camp, so that's a long time to make gains positively or maybe even for something to happen negatively," Miller said. "So, I'm just taking one day at a time, and I hope to get better every day."
Miller is 30 years old and will turn 31 in October. Even without this injury, he should be heading into his NFL twilight years. But with this major knee injury, he faces long odds of reaching his previous numbers. He was unexpectedly solid last season, but even among a relatively weak tight end class, he is nothing more than an uninspiring TE2 this season. Matt Spaeth, David Paulson and David Johnson are the other tight ends on the Steelers' roster, so ... yeah, nothing much to like here.

|19.06||FantasySharks.com - TE is once again deep this year. I've waited till now to backup my TE because there would be options available and in reality, I could wait till the 20th round and still get someone I'd like to have. I looked at Ed Dickson, Tony Moeaki, Dallas Clark, Marcedes Lewis and Heath Miller and after some contemplation, am going to run with Miller. The offense the Steelers are putting in place should suit him and I think there's potential for an up year from him.|
