RB Frank Gore, SF
<< Back to Profiles List
Frank Gore has been remarkably durable and consistent for a guy who carries the weight of his team on his shoulders. Injuries drastically hampered his college career, but he missed only two games last season and only one in 2007. San Francisco went out and drafted Glen Coffee, partly as insurance and partly to help lighten the load for their superstar RB. The running game will be the 49ers' bread and butter again this season and it's a smart idea to have the rookie step in and take a few extra snaps if it means keeping Gore healthy. Gore averaged a robust 4.3 yards per carry over the past two years. That figure could rise closer to the otherworldly 5.4 YPC he posted during his Pro Bowl 2006 season if Coffee is used effectively as a change of pace (and if the team's young, re-tooled offensive line can deliver the goods).

FFToolbox.com - Debated going with a receiver here, but Gore is the only RB left on the board that I like this early, especially in a PPR league. He has not lived up to his draft status the past couple of seasons, but the numbers have still be decent, especially considering the horrid shape of the Niners offense the past few years. The buzz coming out of the Bay area going into training camp has been positive and the Niners will be emphasizing the run this season. In addition, Gore will be playing with a reasonable facsimile of a NFL QB and the Niners receiving corps should be improved. I like the upside play here. |

RapidDraft.com - How do people keep leaving this guy on the board until the second round of PPR drafts (says one of the guys who let him go to the second round this time). Gore is the clear centerpiece in San Fran and will be a top five back in this system. |

FFToday.com - I know a lot of people drafting near the end of Round 1 this year are tempted to go WR-WR, but I think it makes more sense to go with a RB-WR combo to stay flexible through the 3rd/4th. Gore does it all well, particularly catching the ball. It would be nice if he scored a little more, but wear-and-tear on Westbrook and the age difference between them have me leaning to Gore. |
