QB Kyle Orton, DEN

Orton came to Denver in the blockbuster trade for Cutler. Jay Cutler was on his way up in the Denver organization and thought he was at the top. Unfortunately for Cutler, he got a new boss and became expendable. Orton threw for just under 3,000 yards, had 18 passing -- 3 rushing -- touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2008 in Chicago. An above average season for an NFL quarterback, but not exceptional. Orton now has McDaniels as his mentor. I would expect great things out of Orton after watching Cassel become a force to be reckoned with last year, but not all quarterbacks are the same. Orton will be the test for McDaniels. When shopping a QB trade for Cutler, McDaniels would not have picked Orton if it were not for a reason (this is my perspective at least). Orton's stats show he is on the up swing and my interest is sparked to see how he responds to the hot seat in Denver. I am optimistic, but not overly excited about Orton at this stage; I believe he is undervalued and many fantasy owners will skip him early on.

Yeah, there's an outside chance Simms wins the job but he's worthless to everyone but me and I can pick him up late. Hands down the QB with the most talented receiving corp remaining. |

FFLibrarian.com - Maybe I just want to believe in my Broncos (call it a homer pick if you must) but with all of the receiving talent surrounding Orton this year, I can't help but imagine he'll put up decent numbers. Solid QB2 in my book. |
