2011 Outlook: Sleeper (undervalued)
Don't write off Marion the Barbarian just yet. Nobody has questioned whether Barber leaves it all out in the field, but all those punishing hits he delivers and absorbs continue to take their toll on his body. For the second straight year, Barber seemed to wear down over the final weeks of the regular season and that has given the Cowboys the opening to make the explosive Felix Jones the starter entering the 2010 campaign.
Still, it was far from a bad season for Barber,w(ho rushed for 932 yards, seven scores and averaged a healthy 4.4 yards per carry last season). The ypc average dipped to a paltry 3.30 in Weeks 13-16 and Barber's overall receptions total was cut in half from the year before. And yes his nose for the end zone is not what it once was as he failed to reach double digit scores for the second straight season. Lastly, this remains a true RBBC with Tashard Choice coming in on third downs, so in addition to Barber potentially slowing down, there will also be plenty of mouths to feed. But...
Barber is still in line to receive the goal line work and that will help offset his lack of touches (which probably falls into the 8-10 per game range). Considering Jones is always a threat to go down in a heap, Barber likely will get the starting gig for 1-2 games and perhaps more with a serious injury. Plus, the early preseason reports have been favorable regarding his health and his vibe on the field. The wind has shifted and it is blowing toward King Felix, but considering how often that cat breaks down when given limited touches, I am still not totally convinced that he will survive a year where his workload is expected to increase a bunch. Let's not say Barber is a RB2, but he remains a heck of a solid third or rotational option and I think he could end the season as the best fantasy back in the division.
