2009 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

Even though the Giants had 2 running backs that rushed for over 1000 yards, Brandon Jacobs was able to set career highs in attempts (213), yards (1089), touchdowns (15) and tied a career high in yards per carry (5.0) -- all this while only playing in 13 games. The key to the Giants' running game is their offensive line and they all return this season to help open more holes for Jacobs to run through. In leagues that don't count receptions, Jacobs is definitely a top 12 RB because he is often taken out on 3^rd down and rarely catches any balls. In leagues that do count receptions, he is still a top 20 back -- mainly because he scores so many touchdowns.

Jacobs is a top 15 fantasy back in any scoring system and probably a top 10 back in non point per reception leagues. He says he has worked on his pass catching skills in the off season, but with the way the Giants like to mix in their running backs I don't see him doing much damage in the passing game. With the departure of Derrick Ward, Jacobs should see more carries and should be one of the safest fantasy picks out there.
