2009 Outlook: Deep-league Only
Tight end Ben Utecht will be the Bengals starting tight end in 2009 following the season ending injury to Reggie Kelly. Even without the presence of Kelly, Utecht is unlikely to have much value in any fantasy league. Utecht played in ten games for the Bengals in 2008, catching only 16 passes for 123 yards and no touchdowns. Some of his terrible production can be attributed to the Bengals quarterback situation, but even with a healthy Carson Palmer, Utecht is still far down the Bengals pecking order as far as pass catchers go. Fantasy owners looking for a backup tight end in the later rounds of fantasy drafts can do better than Ben Utecht.
Camp update: Ben Utecht suffered a concussion and will be out indefinitely. This is just another reason to stay away from Utecht in fantasy leagues this season.
