TE Vernon Davis, SF

2009 Outlook: Bye Week Fill-in
In Vernon Davis' eyes, Mike Martz was the wrong man to run this team's offense. Under Martz, Davis was asked to block, block, block some more, and maybe run a few decoy routes. Consequently, Davis spent much of last season alternately sulking and feuding with coaches. Enter Jimmy Raye. In an interview with the San Francisco chronicle, Davis expressed his excitement about working with a coach who's offenses tend to prioritize the TE position. Raye coached in Kansas City from 1992-2000 and is accounted as a close mentor for future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez; if anyone can get some productivity out of the underachieving Davis, this seems to be the man for the job.

FFToday.com - Mr. Next To Mr. Irrelevant for this draft, and new member of How the Mighty Have Fallen Club, Vernon Davis. Sure, he's fallen, but his NFL and FF claim to fame was all hype and no substance. Great athlete, but not and maybe never will be, a "football player". At this point though I'll take a longshot on him getting his act together in a new offense. |

ThunderingBlurb.com - I really like VD's chances this year. He's out of Big Mike's Doghouse, he clicks with newly backbraced QB Shaun Hill and he's had a relatively solid overall preseason. He could have some big games and that's what will count in this format. |
