WR Santonio Holmes, PIT
<< Back to Profiles List
Many people thought that Santonio Holmes would be a benefactor of the 3rd year WR breakout season we have seen work like magic for so many other WRs. His Superbowl MVP award might seem like evidence of a breakout, but a closer look at his regular season reveals that 2008 was nothing like a boom season for this boom or bust player.
Holmes has a current ADP of 48, while the ADP of Ward is at 69. Round 4 or 5 seems a bit high for a guy like Holmes who hauled in only 55 catches last year and has increased his reception total by only 3 each year since entering the league. His YPC is impressive, but his total catches and TDs are not and the offense is not exactly built for WR to pull down massive fantasy numbers. Logic dictates that the speedy, talented, and young Holmes will eventually eclipse the aging Ward, but it probably won't be this year (and even if it is, the numbers most likely will not justify a 4th or 5th round pick). Having said all that, Santonio Holmes could be this year's Roddy White. He is boom or bust and yes, he is worth drafting ahead of teammate Ward simply because of his potential to explode. Ward will not drastically outperform his draft position, whereas Holmes gives you that chance.

RapidDraft.com - The talent's always been there, and now the motivation finally seems to be matching. Holmes appears ready to make the leap this year, and the fact that I only have to start two receivers here means I won't get hurt too much if he doesn't. |
