2009 Outlook: Stud (low risk)

Now that we know Aaron Rodgers can actually throw the ball, Greg Jennings is no longer a risky pickup for fantasy owners. Rodgers will throw the ball a lot and Jennings will be the main beneficiary. Coming off of a season where he caught 80 passes for 1,292 yards, there is little doubt who Rodgers' favorite target has turned into. Donald Lee and Donald Driver will take away some of Jennings' touchdowns because they are bigger targets in the red zone, but it is Jennings who will make the big plays. Driver had a good year too in 2008, but he is getting older and Jennings could take over some of those catches, and hopefully, touchdowns. In any fantasy league out there, Jennings will put up the numbers to be any team's number one receiver.

8/2 Update: The Packers left little doubt as to who is their top target when they signed Jennings to a three-year extension worth up to $30 million. They wanted to avoid Jennings shopping the market after this season and Jennings is perfectly happy to stay in Green Bay. Barring an injury, Jennings is one of the top fantasy receivers in the NFL.

2009 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
May 2.07 CBSSports.com
June 2.05 FantasyFootballTrader.com - Catches/yardage both climbed substantially in second and third seasons. Turning 26 just after the season starts, Greg Jennings is aging like a fine wine and just now enters the money years. Big run on #1 WR's before I pick again and little projected difference between the next 9 RB's on my board.
July 2.07 FFToolbox.com - Certainly arguments can be made for Steve Smith or Roddy White here, but of three, Jennings plays in the most explosive offense, has the best fantasy QB and gets to play against the Bengals, Rams, Lions and Browns in his first six games. Oh, he also caught 80 passes for 1,292 yards and nine touchdowns last year. Hard to argue with that kind of production.
Aug. 2.04 FFToday.com - I haven't been advocating WR-WR to start a draft this year, but I'm going to make an exception here. I'm doing it partly to see how it turns out, but also because I think the Pats and Pack are going to be the two best offenses of 2009, so I'll roll with the top wideout from each team.
