2009 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

Coming off an injury plagued 2008 (and offseason knee surgery), Marques Colston will look to regain his status as a top ten fantasy wide receiver in 2009. Colston will be given every opportunity to accomplish this feat as the Saints should throw the ball about as much as any other team in the league. When Colston returned to health at the end of 2008, he scored ten or more fantasy points in five of his last six games, and this success should continue in 2009. Drew Brees is extremely comfortable throwing to Colston (especially in the red zone) and should continue to look for Colston throughout the 2009 season. Colston should be one of the top ten wide receivers drafted in fantasy drafts and will live up to his draft status this season.

2009 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
May 2.11 TheHuddle.com - With backs starting to taper into a group that should still yield a decent RB2 somewhere down the road, this pick can address the need for a top wideout. Colston disappointed last year, but that was injury-related; if he stays healthy, in that offense he's a great value this late in the second round.
June 2.11 FFToday.com - Back at the 2.07 I pre-selected Colston, Roddy White, Steve Smith, Anquan Boldin and Marion Barber. Thankfully Colston got here as he, White and Smith were the last of my tier 2 WR group. Colston missed 5 games last year but his 2nd half was spectacular, a 42-678-5 line in 8 games, and of course he benefits from working with the reigning top QB in fantasy football. Not a lot to worry about with Colston as my WR1.
July 3.03 eCouchCoach.com - Injured last year, which means he should have a bounce back year this year. Also, don't forget he's got a QB that loves to throw the ball. Perfect for a PPR league.
Aug. 2.10 FantasyFootballTrader.com - I don't know how KFFL and Fans will play it, but a popular move I've seen among 1.01 and 1.02 picks this year is WR/WR at the 2/3 turn. Better grab Colston, who I project top 5.
