2011 Outlook: Fantasy Handcuff

Bell used an explosive opening game last season (28-143) to jump back into the fantasy discussion. After being a member of the Super Bowl winning Saints, he now moves on to becoming the primary short-yardage option in the Eagles' backfield. The fifth-year runner received double digit carries nine times last season and had seven games with at least 50 rush yards or a touchdown, but he is no threat as a receiver and ultimately Bell is most effective in smaller doses. That should serve well with the Eagles, where LeSean McCoy is expected to be the primary ground game option in this explosive offense and FB Leonard Weaver will do a lot of the dirty work. Unless McCoy suffers an injury or takes a step back in his second pro season, it is hard to see Bell receiving enough work to match his 654 yards on 172 carries from a season ago. However, he should easily surpass the five scores he generated in a crowded Saints backfield (even if Weaver gets a look or two along the way) and that makes him more valuable in heavily-weighted TD leagues. Worst case, consider Bell a high-end handcuff for McCoy owners with the potential to be a weekly RB2/flex option if he somehow ends up with the starting gig.
