2009 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

Marshawn Lynch has had two quality years with the Bills. He rushed for 1,115 yards and seven touchdowns during his rookie campaign and followed it up with a solid 1,036 yard and eight touchdown season. The bad news about Lynch is that he is currently suspended for three games for violating the league's personal conduct policy. That will move his stock down a little bit, but that suspension is also being appealed so keep an eye on that before drafting him onto your fantasy team. Yet, Lynch could also have a disappointing season if Buffalo uses new receiver Terrell Owens to his full potential. Trent Edwards, Owens and Lee Evans could be putting up the big fantasy numbers while Lynch hangs out in the backfield waiting for his occasional carry.

8/16 Update: Lynch will be gone for the first three games of the season, but the Bills should still expect him to get around 1,000 yards again this season. Lynch saw limited action during the team's second preseason game, carrying the ball five times and catching three passes, but with limited success. Fred Jackson or Dominic Rhodes are not going to take away his starting job and Lynch will be the main rusher for the Bills when he returns in week four.

2009 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
May 3.12 FantasyFootballTrader.com - Getting Lynch on "Blue Light Special" with the 3-game suspension. #13 RB last year at #19 price.
June 4.08 FFToolbox.com - We all know the drill here: Lynch is a top 10-15 RB who is falling because of the three-game suspension. I guess you have take a chance somewhere and as long as I get sufficient backfield depth, I think taking Lynch here is a worthy roll of the dice.
July 4.11 RapidDraft.com - Lynch is probably a second-rounder in this format without the suspension. The small rosters here and the diffuse talent at running back right now will make it relatively easy for me to cover the time he'll miss.
