2013 Outlook: Solid/Safe Pick

Last updated on May-28-2013 by Matt De Lima

For years, fantasy owners had not-so-patiently waited for James Jones to live up to his potential. Finally, it all came together in 2012 with injuries to WRs Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson, making Jones the primary target. Jones responded with 64 receptions for 784 yards and 14 touchdowns. His red-zone production was off the charts. Just like Nelson scoring 15 TDs in 2011, Jones should not be expected to score anywhere close to 14 TDs ever again, or even half that total. He is a very good WR3/flex player and will have his fair share of big games, but do not reach for him expecting him to put up Jennings-like numbers now that he has finally earned an expanded starting role.

6.10 Gridiron Experts - All set at TE, QB and RB, so it's time to see if I can salvage anybody at wide receiver. Lucky for me, the guy who led the NFL in receiving touchdowns is still available here at the back of round six. Jones should remain one of Aaron Rodgers' preferred red zone targets and is a good bet to score 8+ touchdowns again. He's more of a WR2 on a good fantasy team, but in this case, he's promoted to WR1.

6.02 World Fantasy Rankings #4 - James Jones has always made me nervous and has not been consistent in the past. I like consistency. This year will be different and with Greg Jennings gone and two other good weapons in Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb getting most of the attention. James Jones has taken football a lot more seriously the last couple years and when Aaron Rodgers mentions players specifically in the off season, it normally bodes very well. I like double digit TD's, especially from my third WR.
