2009 Outlook: Fantasy Handcuff

Even though Brandon Jacobs is entrenched as the #1 RB, the Giants run the ball so often that there are plenty of opportunities for more then one running back on the team. Bradshaw was a 7th round pick by the Giants in 2007 and he didn't come along until late in that season, when the Giants' running backs were decimated with injuries. While playing #3 behind Jacobs and Ward, Bradshaw was mainly a special teams player, but he was still able to rush the ball 67 times for 355 yards (a 5.3 average) and 1 touchdown. Going into the 2009 season Bradshaw has the upper hand on the #2 spot on the Giants depth chart. Knowing that Jacobs has had injury issues in the past and that the Giants like to split carries and use more then one back, makes having Bradshaw as a handcuff a must.

August 21, 2009

With a solid training camp and solid play in the Giants' first pre-season game, Bradshaw has entrenched himself in the #2 spot behind Brandon Jacobs. As we saw over the past 2 seasons with Derrick Ward, the Giants like to use 2 backs; with the great o-line they have, it has been possible for both backs to produce good numbers, as seen by the fact that New York had two players rush for over 1,000 yards. If Bradshaw can show that he can help in pass protection and coming out of the backfield then he will be more than just a handcuff and has a chance to put up numbers similar to Ward. Watch him through the rest of the pre-season, he might be worth drafting even if you don't have Brandon Jacobs.

2009 Mock Draft Results

Month Position Franchise/Comments
May 10.02 FFToolbox.com - Bradshaw takes over the Derrick Ward "wind" role. Factor in Brandon Jacobs has missed eight games over the last two seasons and Bradshaw likely gets a handful of starts in this ground-oriented offense.
June 10.04 FansFantasyFootball.com - Well plenty of carries to go around and an injury away from a huge season...sounds like a solid 10th round pick to me
July 10.05 TheHuddle.com - Great line, questionable receivers, injury-prone feature back... there should be plenty of opportunity for Bradshaw this season.
