TE Fred Davis, WAS
<< Back to Profiles List
2009 Outlook: Deep-league Only
Like fellow second-round picks Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, Davis rarely saw the field last year, let alone make an impact, but a year of pro ball seasoning appears to be changing his fortune. The John Mackey award winner for the best tight end following his final season at USC, the 6'4, 257-lb Davis has the skill set to be a pass receiving force like he was when he set all the TE records for the Trojans. The talk in training camp last year was that Davis was getting the best of the defenders, though that never translated to the field as he caught only three passes last year. Year two and more of the same buzz about his ability, but this time expect Davis to play a larger role opposite Chris Cooley, similar to what Martellus Bennett did with the Cowboys last year playing with Jason Witten. Only those owners that play in dynasty leagues or are required to start two tight ends should consider Davis, but run to the waiver wire to snag this upside play if Cooley goes down with an injury.
