2012 Outlook: Deep-league Only
Last updated on Aug-20-2012 by George BissellThe Panthers' crowded backfield situation got even more complicated with former San Diego goalline specialist Mike Tolbert signing a one-year contract as a free agent this offseason. Tolbert will likely see some work as a goalline vulture, which is where Cam Newton excelled last season. Tolbert is worth a speculative pickup in the late rounds of fantasy drafts this season.

2012 Experts Mock Draft (June) June 6, 2012 - June 25, 2012 |
18.07 | FantasySharks.com - Tolbert is transitioning to fullback this year and as a result is not projected to put up the kind of fantasy numbers that made him a viable fantasy option opposite Ryan Matthews in San Diego last season. Tolbert finds himself on the Panthers along side three dynamic rushers (including Cam Newton) but what I like is that Tolbert should actually see the field more than DeAngelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart with opportunity at the goal line and in the passing game. Someone ahead of him gets hurt or Stewart is traded, and Tolbert's value goes up. Hey.. it is the 18th round, what do you want? Miracles? |

2012 Experts Mock Draft (July) July 16 - 27 |
18.01 | FantasySharks.com - Tolbert is easier to draft in a best ball format where you know you'll be getting his TD scores. Coupled with some receptions out of the backfield, I expect there should be some weeks where Tolbert contributes to my squad. As the FB, he'll be on the field more often than DeAngelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart so should see plenty of snaps. Most will be blocking plays for him but he will have his share of plays too. |

2012 Experts Mock Draft (August) Aug 14 - 24 |
15.10 | KFFL.com - I could stand to fortify a few positions. RB stands out most. Tolbert may be Jeremy Shockey to Carolina, but if one their backs (one of which I already drafted) goes down, the big man's role will increase greatly. |
