2013 Outlook: Sleeper (undervalued)

Wells' sophomore season was a nightmare as he struggled with injuries and inconsistent play. Wells rushed for 397 yards and two touchdowns on just 116 carries last season, down from 793 yards and seven touchdowns on 176 carries as a rookie. It appeared highly unlikely that Wells was going to turn things around in his third season until the Cardinals traded away Tim Hightower to Washington and Virginia Tech standout Ryan Williams, who Arizona selected in the second round of the NFL Draft, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the teams second pre-season game on August 19th.

Due to several events beyond his control, Wells goes from being a major bust, buried on the Cardinals depth chart, to the team's starting running back with little competition for carries. The impact of Williams' injury is significant because it means that Wells will carry a majority of the workload this season and will receive all of the goal-line carries. While Arizona is not the best team in the league at running the football, "bell cow" backs who shoulder a majority of the workload in NFL backfield have tremendous value, which makes Wells a sleeper to target no matter how disappointing his previous two years have been.
