2014 Outlook: Sleeper (undervalued)

Last updated on Jul-15-2014 by Rusty Reeves

Look up the phrase "fantasy sleeper" and you're likely to see Sanders' picture next to it. Sanders figures to step into the hole left by Eric Decker's departure. Decker put up a receiving line of 87/1,288/11 last season. If Sanders can produce at a clip that averages between his production last season in Pittsburgh (67/740/6) and Decker's, that would put him near a line of 75/1,000/8. A lot of that possibility depends on the chemistry he develops with QB Peyton Manning heading into the season. He'll figure to be the fourth option in the passing game (behind the Thomas tandem and Welker), but will have every opportunity to excel. With all those options, there will be games where someone else shines, but his turn will come and it'll result in double-digit receptions and the potential for multiple scores. There is little downside and high upside for Sanders in Denver. He's a solid WR3 with the very real potential to be a top-20 WR, should Welker miss more time than desired.

Latest Update

Jul-28-14 Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders motivated

On the first day of camp Emmanuel Sanders dropped a single pass. Sanders responded to the drop with, "My Grandma could have caught that pass." This moment motivated Sanders to go into the lab and closely watch the likes of Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker and former Bronco receiver Eric Decker. Since the drop, Sanders has shown improvement and has caught tightly defended passes and had an amazing one-handed TD catch during Sunday's practice. The Bronco receiver is truly embracing his role as a student of the game and has shown great potential under Peyton Manning.

Fantasy Analysis:

Sanders is showing that he is working hard to improve himself as a player. The fifth year receiver gained 740 yards and six touchdowns last season, a statistical showing that can easily be repeated this year. If Sanders keeps on improving, he can prove to be a valuable pickup. With an ADP of 64 Sanders' potential in the Broncos offense is not a secret. I can see Sanders as a worthy low-end WR2 or high-end WR3 this season solely based on his potential within the Broncos offense.

11.03 FFToolbox - Jamie Blackburn - Depth pick, but with Wallace now in South Beach and Antonio Brown drawing most of the defensive attention, Sanders seems like a safe bet in a high volume passing offense.

10.01 Bruno Boys - Getting Emmanuel Sanders here was too bad. He has yet to prove he can put up consistent fantasy numbers but he is the WR2 in a Pittsburgh offense that is as devoid of receiving options as anytime during Big Ben?s tenure. With Heath Miller still recovering from a brutal knee injury and Antonio Brown likely to be the focus of opposing secondaries someone needs to step up. It?s either going to be Sanders, Cotchery or Wheaton. I?ll be praying I guessed correctly.
