2013 Outlook: Quality Backup

Last updated on Jul-15-2013 by Matt De Lima

Mike Williams was about as reliable as they come in 2012. He scored double-digit fantasy totals in half his games in standard formats, no easy task for a No. 2 receiver on a run-first team. Williams is a guy I'd relish if I could grab him as my flex. There just isn't enough upside to get me really excited about him, even though he's been pretty reliable throughout his career. Over his three year career, he has seen 127, 124 and 127 targets respectively. And check this out, over the same span, he has caught 65, 65 and 63 passes. Unreal consistency. Impressive, right?

7.06 Fantasytaz - Jim Day - Was hoping James Jones would continue to fall, but after he got taken I went to my #2 choice in Williams. He, like Steve Smith, continue to get no respect in the fantasy community and I am not sure why. He finished 2012 as the 18th best WR yet he came off the board here as the 26th WR taken. Love that value.

6.12 FantasyTaz - Williams finished at #20 in the scoring last year, yet fell to me as the 34th receiver off the board. Definitely in the running for the Rodney Dangerfield of FF. If you leave out 2011, which I treat are a pure aberration, then he averaged just under 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns a year in his other two. I think he is a good #2 WR, especially with a strong 3 RBs and TE taken before him.
