Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew lying about knee rehab?
Or maybe he just misspoke.
Back in April, Maurice Jones-Drew said during an interview on Sirius XM Radio that he was already running on his surgically repaired right knee. That news meant he was about a month ahead of schedule in his recovery. Reason for optimism?
Maybe not so much, more than two months later. During an appearance on NFL Network earlier this week, Jones-Drew was asked about the knee and said: "I feel great. They cleared me a couple weeks ago to start running, which was awesome."
Jones-Drew underwent surgery in January to fix a bone-on-bone issue in the knee. He missed the final two games in 2010 due to a torn meniscus, but said after the season that he played with the bum knee starting in September. The initial timetable for his recovery was said to be four months.
Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said in May that Jones-Drew will be limited during training camp.
Fantasy Analysis:
Maybe MJD meant a couple of months ago, not weeks, and just had a slip of the tongue, because it sounded like everything was good back in April. Now he says he wasn't cleared to run until June, which would actually put his recovery behind schedule. But I don't want to get too suspicious about this now. Just know that Jones-Drew's health -- and whatever the truth about it is -- will be story No. 1 during Jacksonville's training camp.
