Bucs' Mike Williams working to not be the next Michael Clayton

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams @Mikebuc19 paid a lot of dividends in his first season. He scored 11 touchdowns and racked up nearly 1,000 yards. But Tampa Bay faithful have seen such promise before out of a rookie wideout. Michael Clayton was a first-round pick in 2004 and put up almost 1,200 yards in his debut season. However, thanks to nagging injuries and simple ineffectiveness, the rest of Clayton's career has been a major disappointment. He recorded seven touchdown catches in his rookie year; he has three since. He hasn't surpassed 500 yards in a season since 2004. Williams is hoping that some increased versatility as to where he lines up on the field will help him ignore the "sophomore slump." Williams has continued to hone his deep-pass skills out of the split end position, but the Bucs want to create more mismatches with him, so Williams has also been working out of the slot and flanker positions with the help of offensive coordinator Greg Olson and quarterback Josh Freeman @JF5x. "Last year, I just learned the entire offense by the last game of last season. Now, I know the whole offense and I know what I have to do and where I'm going to be if I go to the slot or be the Z receiver. Right now, [Josh and I] are on the same page."

Fantasy Analysis:

Defenses will be paying a lot more attention to where Williams this year, but as he repeatedly displayed last year, he has incredible jump-ball skills. He can sky over anyone, and there really is no good defense for massive hops. As Williams' connection with Freeman improves, each of them will only get better. These are a couple of young, high-upside players who carry a relatively low amount of risk. Williams is a pretty healthy WR2 in fantasy. Freeman, although he will definitely throw more interceptions in 2011, can be a solid QB1 with a bit of luck.
