Lions rookies RB Mikel Leshoure, WR Titus Young sign contracts
The Detroit Lions are a young, up-and-coming team. Two youngsters who hope to push them to the next level are 2010 second-round picks running back Mikel Leshoure and wide receiver Titus Young
. Both players signed their first NFL contract on Thursday. According to the Detroit Free Press, both signed four-year contracts. Financial terms were not yet available.
Leshoure said on his Twitter account, "Agreed to terms. Ready to get to work. Looking forward to a great season and career with the Lions."
Fantasy Analysis:
Leshoure has more immediate fantasy value. Head coach Jim Schwartz has made it known that he plans to use the 6-foot, 227-pound runner as the team's short-yardage runner and end-of-game closer. That means some cheap touchdowns. Schwartz hinted back in May that Leshoure and Jahvid Best could see their roles in the Lions' offense change on a week-to-week basis, but right now, everyone fully expects Best to be the clear No. 1 rusher here. However, Leshoure should be a valuable vulture.
Young might push Nate Burleson
for the team's No. 2 WR spot, but he'll probably start out as a third receiver. He'll make the amazing play and accumulate totals that make for a stellar fantasy day in a catch or two. But his totals will be inconsistent. He's a guy to watch, but probably not draft.
