Ravens give RB Ray Rice franchise tag

Unlike the Eagles with DeSean Jackson, all signs point to the Baltimore Ravens' desire to lock up running back Ray Rice @RayRice27 to a long-term contract. But until an agreement is reached, or in case something can't be reached prior to next season, Rice will be working off of the franchise tag. The team assigned the tag to Rice on Friday. If he plays under the tag -- something Rice has said he will not complain about -- he'll make $7.7 million in 2012.

Fantasy Analysis:

Some people viewed Rice as a disappointment early on last season, but he still ended up with more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage and a career-high 15 touchdowns. He has no injury concerns, he is a great receiver, he gets the rock between the 20s and down by the goal line for a team that loves to run the ball. While Ricky Williams' retirement means the Ravens need to find a backup for Rice, he will enter next season as the running back with the least amount of concerns and perhaps the first RB off of fantasy draft boards. And he's still just 25 years old.
