Redskins TE Fred Davis assigned franchise tag

The Redskins slapped the franchise tag on tight end Fred Davis on Friday. If he plays with the tag, he'll end up making $5.4 million next season. In 2011, he caught 59 passes for 796 yards and three touchdowns. He's entering his fifth season in the NFL.

Fantasy Analysis:

Davis posted only one 100-yard game last season, but keep in mind that he was suspended for the final four games of last season after violating's the league's substance abuse policy. The athletic tight end is a huge mismatch for defenses and was able to have productive games despite the fact that Rex Grossman and John Beck were his quarterbacks. That situation will definitely see an upgrade this year, and with Chris Cooley a candidate to be released, Davis' fantasy stock is pointing up. He's only 26 years old and should be a very popular touchdown target for whomever is under center for the Redskins in 2012.
