Redskins busy adding WRs for big money on first day of free agency
The Washington Redskins traded up to get their quarterback of the future last week. Today, they supplied Robert Griffin III with some valuable targets. The biggest acquisition was former Colts WR Pierre Garcon
. The Redskins inked him to a five-year deal worth $42.5 million, and it contains $21.5 million guaranteed. Washington didn't stop there, adding former 49er Josh Morgan
to a five-year deal worth $12.5 million as well as former Bronco Eddie Royal
on a one-year contract.
Fantasy Analysis:
Not bad for a team that just got stripped of $36 million in salary cap space. Royal reunites with Shanahan and could supplant Jabar Gaffney as the team's No. 1 possession receiver if he stays healthy. Josh Morgan has a lot of talent, but he may be no better than the team's No. 3 WR if Santana Moss is kept around. And $42.5 million with $21.5 guaranteed for Garcon? That's Arian Foster money! He can be a nice down-the-field option for RGIII, but I don't think he'll be a consistent fantasy producer. He certainly won't justify the amount of money he is being given. I would say he's a WR3 in fantasy.
The good news here is that with these guys, Moss and Fred Davis, Griffin will have a ton of options in his rookie season.
