Ryan Grant says he's the Packers' starting RB

Thanks to a season-ending ankle injury, Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant @RyanGrant25 played in just one game and got eight carries last year. That came after back-to-back seasons with at least 1,200 rushing yards. Brandon Jackson @bjackson32 carried most of the rushing load in his absence, but it's very uncertain if he will return to the team as a free agent. In the playoffs, it was James Starks @James44Starks who shined, and he would appear to be Grant's main competition for playing time this fall. But as far as Grant is concerned, he's healthy and he is still the starter. "From what I've heard, that's the conversation that was told to me," Grant said in a recent radio interview. "I was told that by [former Packers running backs coach Edgar Bennett], initially. Jerry [Fontenot, the team's current RB coach] didn't tell me that anything changed. Jerry told me that as of right now I'm still the leader of the backfield and the expectations won't change. ... I do believe there will be competition, which is fine. I'm all for that." When asked if he would accept a backup role, Grant said he would in the best interests of the team.

Fantasy Analysis:

Even if Jackson departs and Grant is named the starter, you shouldn't get too optimistic here. The 25-year-old Starks has earned an opportunity. Given that Grant is coming back from a major right ankle injury, the coaching staff won't be afraid to turn this backfield into a timeshare. Maybe one of these two players will separate himself during the season, but right now, both of them are RB3/flex options.
