Bengals' Cedric Benson arrested for assault

Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson @Cedric_Benson was arrested in Austin, Texas early Sunday morning and charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member. Benson's attorney, Sam Bassett, said in a statement that the arrest followed "a conflict" between Benson and a former roommate. Benson posted $10,000 bond and was released just before 2 p.m. local time. The charge is a Class A misdemeanor. According to the arrest affidavit via Julia Morales of Your News Now in Austin, the assaulted man is named Charles Clavins. He and Benson had apparently been having problems ever since Benson asked Clavins to move out of Benson's home a few days ago. Clavins was on the phone when Benson approached him. The two began to talk about their problems, and then Benson punched and continued to strike Clavins, causing "severe injury" to his face. This is Benson's second arrest in as many years and his fourth as an NFL player. In June 2010, Benson was charged with assault after allegedly punching a bartender outside a bar.

Fantasy Analysis:

This is an awesome way for a free agent to improve his value on the open market, right? Oh well. It is pretty much expected that Benson will re-sign with the Bengals. This news strengthens that thought. I'm sure more details about this incident will continue to trickle out. Given Benson's history, a suspension could very well be in his future.
