Jets' Braylon Edwards pleads guilty to DWI
Here's a story that would have gotten more pub if the state of the NFL wasn't so wrapped up in chaos. New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards pleaded guilty Friday to driving under the influence stepping from a Sept. 21 traffic stop. He accepted a $500 fine and must continue with an NFL alcohol counseling program that he's been in since November. Edwards' driver license will be suspended for six months, but he will not face probation or jail time.
"I feel good," Edwards said afterwards. "I feel like it came to a fair conclusion by the judge and DA. I'm happy that it's past and now it's just really time to focus on football again."
Fantasy Analysis:
This admission of guilt in a court of law coupled with a 2009 incident outside a Cleveland nightclub which led to a no contest plea to aggravated disorderly conduct probably means a league suspension is coming up for the soon-to-be free agent. He wasn't suspended after that incident. Obviously, it won't help his market value. Edwards, 28, can be a good get for a team looking to add a big wide receiver. His fantasy value for 2011 is to be determined, but if he remains with the Jets, he'll also remain a fairly solid WR3. But many people believe the team will let Edwards walk so that it can retain Santonio Holmes.
