New CBA will bring us wild/euphoric week of player movement

"Football is back." So said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA* Executive Director DeMaurice Smith today after player representatives unanimously approved a 10-year collective bargaining agreement. Now that the lockout is history, most important to fantasy football players is when we will see all of the trades and free agency begin. Well, per Article 11, Transition Rules for the 2011 League Year in the new CBA, here's how things are going to roll. At about 6 p.m. Eastern today, the NFL will publish a list of free agents, including the designation of who is restricted and who is unrestricted. Business will really start to pick up Tuesday at 10 a.m. That's the first minute when team's can make trades (read: Kevin Kolb @KevinKolb_4), sign their own draft picks and sign undrafted free agents. At 4:01 p.m. Thursday, players are eligible to be cut (read: Vince Young @VinceYoung). Friday will be the most hectic day of the week. At 6 p.m., teams can renegotiate existing player contracts as well as finally ink free agents -- either their own or someone else's -- to a new contract. Teams can negotiate with free agents starting Tuesday, but signings can not be made official until the last day of the work week. The league year is expected to start no later than Aug. 4, and all players under contract have 23 days after the start of the new year to either show up or lose a year of accrued service toward free agency.

Fantasy Analysis:

Also, players can start reporting to team facilities tomorrow, and training camps will open for 10 teams at a time on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The two leftover teams, the Jets and Texans, will report Sunday. We'll try our best to keep you abreast of all of the crazy action. Obviously, the focus will be on the positions that matter most to us -- quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. But I might throw some defensive players in there as well. Where Nnamdi Asomugha lands will have a certain indirect fantasy impact. Get ready, folks. This is going to be a lot of fun.
