Giants' Steve Smith happy to accept one-year deal
Coming back from serious knee injury, New York Giants' receiver Steve Smith has informed the team that he is content to sign a one-year deal. Considering the risk of re-injury or potentially beginning the year on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, Smith understands why the team can't afford to take a big gamble on him, especially with 15 pending unrestricted free agents including running back Ahmad Bradshaw, defensive tackle Barry Cofield and defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka.
Fantasy Analysis:
After a career-best 2009 season that included Smith catching 107 balls for 1,220 yards and seven scores, expectations were very year for the "other" Steve Smith. It's unfortunate how quickly things can change. Smith really has no option besides re-signing with the Giants and continue to rehab his injury. Smith suffered significant cartilage damage and went under the knife this off-season. Even if he returns to the active roster, his Fantasy impact is extremely limited due to health concerns and he simply may not be what he used to as a player that relied on his quickness to get open and collect a ton of receptions.
