Bengals add QB Bruce Gradkowski on 2-year deal

The Cincinnati Bengals finally have a veteran quarterback in their midst. It's Bruce Gradkowski @bgradkowski5. The former Buccaneer, Brown and Raider has agreed to a two-year deal with the Bengals. The Bengals' offensive coordinator is Jay Gruden, so it shouldn't take Gradkowski long to learn the Bengals' system. Or rather, re-learn it. Gruden was the Bucs' offensive coordinator when Gradkowski was on the team from 2006-2007. Gradkowski started four games for the Raiders last season, playing in six. He went 1-3 as a starter, throwing for 1,059 yards, seven interceptions and five touchdowns. In Cincinnati, he will battle rookie Andy Dalton @andydalton14 to be the team's starting quarterback.

Fantasy Analysis:

The other QBs in Bengals camp -- Jordan Palmer and Dan LeFevour -- are considered long shots to start. Gradkowski can be a nice backup, but he's not a good starter. His career QB rating is 65.9. He's inaccurate and doesn't have much arm strength. While it may be tough for Dalton to step in and earn the starting job, I think he has a chance better than 50-50 of doing so. I think it would also be the best thing for the Bengals. Sending Gradkowski out there in week one wouldn't give Bengals fans any reason to be excited for this season. He would better off helping Dalton get up to speed. No matter who starts, Gradkowski or Dalton, I am wary of the entire Bengals offense. You're better off ignoring it in drafts or grabbing certain players such as Cedric Benson @Cedric_Benson and A.J. Green @ajgreen_18 at a marked discount.
