Bills, WR Brad Smith agree to 4-year contract
In need of playmakers, the Buffalo Bills reached an agreement with Jets wide receiver/kick returner Brad Smith on Thursday. He'll get a four-year deal worth $15 million.
"(I'm) very excited about the opportunity to join the Bills and play for coach (Chan) Gailey," Smith said in an e-mail to ESPNNewYork.com.
In five seasons with the Jets, Smith gained more than 3,300 all-purpose yards.
Fantasy Analysis:
But most of those yards came as a returner. Smith is a versatile player who gave the Jets' offense a lot of flexibility, and they will miss that. Smith can catch; he can return kicks; he can run the end around or out of the wildcat formation; he can pass. But this is way too much money to give a specialty player such as Smith. I think the Bills are expecting Smith to provide game-breaking ability on offense. But he's never really proven that he can be a consistent offensive player. He's got his chance now, but this is a pricey move by Buffalo. Also, Smith will quickly realize the talent gap that resides between the Jets and the Bills. I don't really care about him for fantasy purposes.
