Another holdout candidate: Bears RB Matt Forte
About five days ago, Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte said this to the Chicago Tribune: "It never benefits anybody -- a player or organization -- to hold out or miss practices. That's obviously something I wouldn't want to do."
But as we all know, everything in the NFL right now is a fluid situation. And Forte has reportedly changed his mind. According to the Tribune, Forte is "strongly considering" not showing up when the Bears open training camp Friday. Forte is due a salary of just $550,000 this season, which is less than backup running back Chester Taylor, who is owed $1.25 million.
After a fantastic rookie season in 2008 and going through a bit of a dip in 2009, Forte rebounded with a very solid 2010 season. He gained 1,616 yards from scrimmage and scored nine touchdowns.
Fantasy Analysis:
I'll say it again: Don't worry about these holdouts right now. Forte may not get what he wants until after the free agency scramble dies down. But he'll probably get some to sate him. The Bears aren't going to let Taylor carry the load. Forte remains a solid RB2.
